weight loss and covid
It is well known that physical activity is an important factor in the treatment of obesity and the prevention of obesity-related diseases. In the USA, the CDC recommends that children and adults engage in 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity daily, or more for a total of at least 150 minutes per week. Physical inactivity is a contributing factor to the global pandemic of obesity. As the pandemic of obesity continues to worsen, many healthcare institutions are implementing measures and guidelines that are designed to encourage physical activity.
The COVID-19 pandemic has presented a variety of physical and psychological difficulties for people affected. In this article, I address the mental health impacts that have emerged for people affected by this pandemic.
Research findings show that the Covid‐19 pandemic has left more than 6.8 million people suffering from obesity, which is the leading cause of preventable, non‐communicable diseases. More than 30% of people with coronavirus in the United States are obese or overweight, compared with 26.7% of Americans overall.
In many parts of the world, the number of COVID-19 deaths has exceeded the number of deaths from all forms of cancer in a single year. In the USA, COVID-19 has killed more people than heart disease, Alzheimer's, diabetes, and motor vehicle accidents combined. The World Health Organisation has called for the urgent creation of a vaccine for COVID-19, as matter of urgency. The development of such a vaccine is a complex and expensive research and development project, and the vaccine may require multiple vaccine doses.
