weight loss with PCOS
PCOS is a condition where a woman has high levels of insulin; this insulin causes an increase in the amount of an androgen hormone (testosterone) in the body, which in turn causes an increase in the level of sex hormones. This causes the ovaries to produce more androgen and therefore weight gain. PCOS is also associated with increased sugar sensitivity leading to insulin resistance. PCOS is often treated with an oral contraceptive called the pill which acts to lower the androgen level in the body.
I am 26 years old and have had polycystic ovaries since I was 21. I have never been told by a doctor that I have PCOS but I have been told by my GP that I have high insulin levels, I am now on metformin and am trying to lose weight. I have been diagnosed with PCOS by a gynecologist and she has said that I may have type 2 diabetes in the future as I am obese. I have been wanting to lose weight for 2 years now but have not been able to do so as I have a young baby and a 2-year-old daughter.
I started my PCOS journey in 2011. I had just given birth and realized that it was hard to lose the baby weight after having a baby. After I gained the weight back I went to my GP and was offered a weight loss plan. I lost 20kg on the plan and was then referred to a dietitian to make a plan to help me lose the rest of the weight.
PCOS is an acronym for Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. It is a very common problem in women, which is caused by an excess of the male hormone “Androgen”. There is no cure for PCOS, but there are treatments that improve the symptoms. However, the best way of losing weight and improving your health is to make sure that you stick to a healthy diet and exercise regime.
A study conducted by the National Health Service showed that women who have polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) are more likely to suffer from depression than women without PCOS. They found that 42.5% of the women with PCOS suffered from depression, which is higher than the 20% of women without PCOS who suffered from depression. The reason why they believe this link exists is due to the emotional burden that women with PCOS have to endure while they are pregnant. After all, the condition is often associated with weight gain, high blood pressure, and headaches, which makes it difficult to manage.
