A few years ago I asked a group of weight loss diet-ers to explain how a calorie count could be so useful in a weight-loss program. Some of them were very persuasive, but one person stood out. She explained that it was the act of giving up the food, and the feeling of loss, that made people focus on the negative consequences of eating. What she was referring to were the social component of food and weight loss.
I work as an Associate Editor for a non-profit, and I often have articles and essays that I need to read and comment on. The process of doing this is a bit time-consuming and tedious, and a lot of it involves reading through pages and pages of text. While I do this on a regular basis, I usually do it in the morning before work. I thought to myself this could be a good project to do with my kids.

We have created a weight loss quiz on the Socrative platform. The quiz can be given to each student in the grade and scored by the teacher. It will be given to students to complete in pairs and at the end of the lesson, each pair will discuss their scores and what they plan to do to increase their weight loss goals (if they wish to), and which ones they plan to give up. The Socrative platform can be used to collect data anonymously with the teacher, which is stored.
