Your body can only store so much fat, so when your body reaches this maximum level of fat cells, the fat cells begin to die. Once the fat cells are dead, they no longer produce cholesterol, which is a major component of our blood.

A study published in The New England Journal of Medicine in November 2005 showed that a modest weight loss of 5 percent can reduce the risk of heart disease by 30 percent and all-cause mortality by 20 percent. The risk reduction is most pronounced in people who are overweight and have high cholesterol.
